Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Arriving at the Bel Air home of Mrs. Francine Graham (Virginia Gregg), who has reported 200,000 dollars worth of stolen Imperial Jade, Sgt. Joe Friday (Jack Webb) and Officer Bill Gannon (Harry Morgan) immediately begin to suspect that something isn't adding up. When the duo voice their suspicions to ex-cop/insurance adjuster John Benjamin (Harry Hattocks), Benjamin agrees, given that the evidence points to an inside job. Tracking some fingerprints to small-time burglar Ben Martin (Eddie Firestone), Friday and Gannon find that, while he had indeed been inside the house, he's too dumb to know what jade is and he claims that he couldn't even open the safe, which shows no signs of jimmy marks. Subsequently confronting Mrs. Graham with their "lack" of evidence, the widow breaks down and admits that she hocked the jade to pay bills following her husband's death.
