Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
V. Shantaram directs this passionately nationalistic tale about the real-time exploits of a World War II field doctor. Sent to China to aid the Chinese in their battle against the Japanese onslaught, Kotnis (Shantaram) exhibits almost superhuman determination to tend to the wounded. While there, he meets and marries a Chinese woman named Ching Jan (Jayashree), becomes a Japanese POW, and eventually dies in battle following a dewy-eyed speech about the glories of India. Hearing of India's mountains green, she ventures to India with her infant son after the war. An altered version of this film was released in the West.
