Down Missouri Way (1946)
by Hans J. Wollstein review

Produced and directed by Josef Berne, formerly of "Soundies" music shorts and "race" (black cast) melodramas, Down Missouri Way features a rare scene between actors William Wright and Will Wright. That piece of trivia aside, this hayseed musical is actually better than you'd expect, due in great part to heartfelt performances by Martha O'Driscoll, singing cowboy Eddie Dean, and baby-voiced Mabel Todd, the latter offering an energetic imitation of Betty Hutton-style vocal phrasing. As for Shirley the Mule and John Carradine, the less said the better.
