Synopsis by Cara Saposnik

Under Soviet rule, Jews were not permitted to leave the country or immigrate. In this documentary by Roberta Hantgan, the story of one Russian Jew is told. We follow Tamara Okun, who waited eight years for her exit visa, on her journey from Leningrad to Vienna and finally to her new home in Washington D.C. Narrated by Tovah Feldshuh this video is a moving portrait of one family's strength and courage and serves as a model for others who have resisted and persevered in the face of oppression.
