Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Trouble begins for Lenore Manson (Hilda Spong) when she obtains a divorce from her husband Ralph (Fred Eric). Unfortunately unable to collect alimony, Lenore is forced to become the mistress of wealthy Robert Hadley (Lester Chambers) so that she may support herself and her young son Eugene. Left in the dark as to his mother's relationship with Hadley, Lenore's son Eugene (played as an adult by Charles Hutchinson) learns the awful truth on his 21st birthday. Horrified by the fact that Hadley has spilled the beans to Eugene, Lenore kills her "protector" but escapes prosecution by pleading temporary insanity. The ensuing scandal destroys Lenore's life, but Eugene is luckier; his rich sweetheart agrees to marry him despite his mother's "scarlet" past.
