The film was lensed on location in St. Catherine, a region of Vorarlberg. Because of the worldwide success of the original song, Die Sennerin von St. Katherein, the film was distributed internationally; emphasis was made in the advertising campaign that the zither-music background was provided by Anton Karas, of Third Man fame.
