Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Never mind the Germanic title; Der Lindenbaum is a Japanese film through and through. Yoko Minsino plays a war orphan who, in Great Expectations- fashion, is cushioned from life's harsh realities by a mysterious benefactor. Thanks to his unseen sponsor's intervention, Minsino is able to attend medical school. The film takes an unexpected melodramatic turn when the identity of the student's shadowy sponsor is revealed. Der Lindenbaum hasn't been rated for American audiences, but chances are you won't want the kids around.
