Synopsis by Nathan Southern
German director Wolfgang Glück took the reins for this 1972 cinematization of Franz Lehár's 1909 operetta Der Graf von Luxemburg. The story, per the original stage work, takes place during the Parisian Mardi Gras, and concerns the financially strapped but sophisticated Count of Luxemburg, and his willingness to enter into a phony marriage in order to enable a Russian prince friend's union with an opera singer. Inevitably, numerous complications arise. The movie version stars Lilian Sukis, Eberhard Wachter, Lilian Sukis, Erich Kunz and Jane Tilden.
