In this romantic drama, Arvid (Stefan Ekman) works at a newspaper in turn-of-the-century Sweden. In no rush to marry, his puts off his beloved Lydia's pleas for an engagement. She marries someone else, and he decides to marry for money. Some years later, Arvid sees Lydia at a performance of the opera and the two try to rekindle their love. They soon see that their moment has passed.
