Synopsis by Perry Seibert
Jeremy Xido's documentary Death Metal Angola follows Sonia Ferreira, who runs an orphanage for Angolan children whose lives have been devastated by war, and her boyfriend, Wilker Flores, a guitarist in the country's thriving death-metal music scene as they attempt to stage the country's first-ever national concert. The filmmakers show how the duo believe that the cathartic music that is quite popular in Angola can help young people exorcise their pain.
