Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Director Michael Kloft reveals the history of the Third Reich, as told through the letters that the people of Germany sent to their führer, Adolph Hitler. Recently unearthed from a clandestine Russian archive, the incredible cache of over 100,000 handwritten letters conveys the hopes, dreams, and admiration of everyday Germans to their charismatic leader - along with the occasional voice of dissent. Though listening to the words of the people in such a crucial moment in world history, we get a sweeping picture of the mood of the day, and the many ways in which Germany changed from the time Hitler seized power, to the moment his regime came crashing down.
