Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Even though it was made in Sweden this version of the classic novel, filmed by the Nordisk Film Corporation, manages to capture many of the colors and nuances that Charles Dickens originally set in print. Buddy Martin does well as young David, earning much sympathy when he is cruelly beaten by his stepfather, Mr. Murdstone. The little boy finds refuge with his maiden aunt, Betsey Trotwood (Marie Dinesen) and grows up to be portrayed by Gorm Smidd -- who, unfortunately, isn't quite so wonderful a David as young Martin. Micawber (Frederick Jensen), on the other hand, is excellently cast, while Rasmus Christiansen, who plays Uriah Heep, the wicked character who steals Wickfield's fortune, goes a bit against type.
