Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Produced in the CBC's Montréal studios, Dateline was a weekly, half-hour historical program dramatizing the lives of both prominent and obscure Canadians. Utilizing the resources of the National Archives and various military organizations, the series spent a lot of time focusing on the French and Indian wars, but also dealt with more recent events, notably the Metis and Riel rebellions of the 19th century and the search for the magnetic North Pole. The program was offered in alternating French and English versions on Friday evenings, with the English version sharing a biweekly time slot with The Wayne and Shuster Show. Dateline was telecast from October 7 to March 30, 1956.
