Synopsis by Sarah Ing
Formed in 1988, this hard rock band is the eponymous creation of leader Glenn Danzig, issuing "a California twist on black Satanic metal." Danzig quickly became a favorite of gore-driven fans. Danzig was released the same year its single "Mother" gained airtime on MTV. The video features seven songs from the debut album, including "Am I Demon," "When Death Had No Name," "She Rides," and "Twist of Cain." The former member of the Misfits reaches a dramatic peak with his costumed and dark presentation. His lyrics and subject matter run in the ungodly vein with the frontman himself claiming Satanic possession. For fans of heavy metal, Danzig has become a classic.
