Synopsis by Perry Seibert
Set in the 1930s, Sharada Ramanathan's drama Dance of Love stars Aditi Rao Hydari as Madhura, a "devadasi" dancer in a village controlled by Mirasu (Manoj K. Jayan). While the dancers are often called upon for sexual purposes, they are in fact respected members of the community, and Madhura finds a large spiritual component in her dancing. Although she carries on a passionate physical relationship with Mirasu, she refuses to seduce a visiting foreigner. Her choice causes her to live a life shunned from the people she knew, but allows her a level of personal respect others find inspiring.
