Synopsis by Mark Deming

A man at the end of his rope is dragged back to the land of the living in this short drama. Richie (Shawn Christensen) has been struggling for years with depression and drug addiction, and has concluded he has no reason to live. Richie is in the process of committing suicide when he unexpectedly gets a call from his sister Maggie (Kim Allen), who lives nearby but hasn't spoken to him in years. Despite her animosity towards Richie, she is suddenly in dire need of a babysitter, and asks him to look after her eleven-year-old daughter Sophia (Fatima Ptacek) for a few hours. Richie grudgingly agrees, and over the course of an eventful evening he learns some valuable lessons about the bonds of family and the unexpected joys of life. Curfew was written and directed by Shawn Christensen, who also plays Richie; the film received a 2013 Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Subject.
