Larry (Larry David) injured his finger fighting with Richard Lewis in the previous episode, "The Bracelet." He arrives at his doctor's office building, pausing to hold the elevator door for a young woman (Marissa Janet Winokur). It turns out that the woman is also going to see his doctor, and she ends up entering the office and signing in before Larry. He's dismayed to learn that his doctor's office has a "first-come, first-serve" policy, so the woman gets to see the doctor before him. He complains to the nurse about the policy. Then he complains to the other patients in the waiting room, who look uncomfortable and don't respond. "People in doctors' offices can't talk? Is that a rule or something?" Larry gripes. When he finally gets in to see Dr. Lynch (Jack Gallagher), Larry is surprised to hear that the doctor's wife, who happens to be Larry's lawyer, was reading Larry's latest script. On leaving, Larry finds that he doesn't have the money to pay for parking. He begs the parking attendant (Karen Maruyama) to loan him the three dollars, and promises to give her five dollars the next time he's there. Because of all the delays, Larry misses a lunch date with Diane Keaton, who is interested in his new script. When he gets home, he finds that his wife (Cheryl Hines) has hired a new interior decorator (Rose Abdoo), who also works for Keaton. There's a message on his answering machine from Keaton, but while she's leaving her phone number, her cell phone signal cuts out. Larry asks the decorator for Keaton's number, and fires her when she refuses to give it to him. When his lawyer bills him for reading his script, he fires her, too, with dire consequences.
