Synopsis by Cammila Collar
We find Kamiyama on the morning of his first day at Cromartie High School. He is so excited to have been accepted there, that he is writing his mother a letter instead of noticing that the rest of his class is full of hoodlums, delinquents, bullies and gang members. Are things as bad as they seem? Kamiyama drops his pencil and discovers for himself. Another student, a boy with a shaved head, picks up the pencil…and eats it. Not about to let himself be intimidated on his first day, Kamiyama drops his entire box of pencils on the floor. The bald headed boy picks up the handful of pencils and proceeds to chow down on all of them. If it seems absurd, that's because it is: this bizarre series follows in the footsteps of such wacky parody anime as Project A-Ko. Cromartie High School prides itself on being populated entirely by rough-housers and tough-guys. Among the students are a Gorilla, a robot that nobody seems to realize is a machine despite his looking more like a coffee can than a sophomore, and Freddy Mercury. Indeed, the dearly departed lead singer from the legendary rock band Queen appears to be attending Cromartie as the most feared and respected student of them all; a guy who speaks only when singing with his rock band. Kamiyama is not actually positive about how the rock hero could have risen from the dead to appear at his high-school but the mustached, bear chested fellow is not known by any other name. Kamiyama is trepidatous about the madness that is his new high-school but decides his best course of action is to try his hand at being a "bad ass". Hilarity ensues.
