Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

This low-budget silent Western starred future B-Western villain George Chesebro as "Bash" Dixon, an itinerant cowboy who rescues Marion Gray (Josie Sedgwick) from being kidnapped by José, a disgruntled former employer. A grateful Marion hires "Bash" as her new foreman, much to the dismay of neighboring rancher Benson (Jack Richardson), who has designs on both the girl and her ranch. In retaliation, Benson has José frame "Bash" in a horse rustling scheme, but Marion sees through the ruse and the real culprits are brought to justice. The Crimson Clue was one of four Chesebro Westerns filmed in Oregon by Milburn Morante, an actor known for playing comedic hillbillies.
