synopsis
This is an Americanized update of the Dostoyevsky classic novel. Instead of 19th-century St. Petersburg, the story takes place in 20th-century Santa Monica, California. Police inspector Porter (Frank Silvera) investigates the murder of a pawnbroker. Robert (George Hamilton) is the remorseless murderer who believes he can escape the penalties of justice. Although someone else has confessed to the killing, Porter is dubious. After meeting Robert, the inspector has suspicions Robert committed the crime and that his ego will cause him to eventually claim responsibility.
