Phelps Harmon and Jason May co-helm the buddy-themed drama Coyote Funeral, which begins with a seemingly daunting vow: upon spotting a Texas roadsign, college student Casey Cannon (Jono Young) determines to make his way, on foot, from one end of the Lone Star State to the other. The decision represents the young man's desperate attempt to block out impending reality - the reality of his mother's (Cheryl Tanner) extramarital affair, and Casey's need to inform his older brother, Dustin (Zach Freeman) of the truth. That moment may arrive sooner than Casey anticipated, however, for Dustin insists on tagging along with Casey on his Texas journey - simply to look out for his younger sibling. They set out for El Paso, making their way from the marshes and grasslands of east Texas to the deserts on the west side of the state - and engaging in every single barroom brawl and grassroots cookout they can find. The journey proves arduous, but comes to depend much less on physical survival than it does on the emotional and spiritual connection between the two brothers.
