As Susan (Sarah Alexander) and Steve (Jack Davenport) attempt another date, this time without their exes and friends along, it turns out that Susan's former flame Patrick (Ben Miles) casts a long shadow -- literally. Susan just happens to mention to best friend Sally (Kate Isitt) that Patrick is enormously well-endowed, leading an insecure Steve to send Jeff (Richard Coyle) on a reconnaissance mission to the gents' rest room for confirmation. Thus assured that he has big, ahem, shoes to fill, Steve begins to experience performance anxiety -- especially when his date with Susan turns out to be an intimate dinner at her place. While Steve, Jeff, and Patrick debate whether a lady's invitation to cook for a man necessarily implies that sex will be on the menu, Sally wrestles with a contentious issue of her own: whether to sleep with Patrick, whose legendary package is almost as enticing as his Tory political beliefs are abhorrent. Originally broadcast May 19, 2000, on BBC2, Size Matters marked season one, episode two of the hit Britcom. U.K. television personalities Angus Deayton and Mariella Frostrup appear as themselves, setting up a running gag about Steve's Frostrup-focused fantasy life. For the 2003 NBC version of this episode, all of the British political references were retrofitted for American audiences.
