Review by Tom Vick

Andy Warhol pushed his voyeuristic impulse into the realm of the pornographic with Couch. To make it, he set up a camera trained on the eponymous piece of furniture and encouraged the denizens of his "Factory" -- and whoever else was around -- to do whatever they wanted on it. The assembled results range from the banal to the exhibitionistic. Some performers, apparently, weren't even aware they were being filmed, and others are all too willing to perform for it. At once the most explicit and the most detached of his early films, Couch was naturally quite scandalous for its time, but is often accused of lacking the conceptual rigor of his more successful experiments.
