This Gladys Brockwell vehicle is structured around an allegorical scene in which Conscience holds court. Ruth Somers (Brockwell) is preparing to marry Cecil Brooke (Douglas Gerrard) when she receives a message from a man she toyed with. The man's discarded sweetheart has killed herself. Ruth couldn't care less about any of this, but her conscience comes to her and makes her relive her past sins. When Brooke lent her his yacht, she brought another lover on board; then when the ship caught fire and sank, she took the first lifeboat, leaving the man locked in a cabin. Then there's the issue with the young man whose sweetheart committed suicide. The figures of Lust, Avarice, Envy, and "Wicked Ambition" appear before her and as they are unveiled, Ruth sees only herself. But she shrugs all this off and heads for the altar. Her former lover, having received no reply to his message, shows up. When Ruth shuns him, he goes into another room and kills himself. Brooke finally denounces Ruth and walks out on her, causing her to beg forgiveness.
