Synopsis by Hal Erickson

William Elliot -- no relation to future western star "Wild Bill" Elliot -- played the titular hero in Pathe's Comrade John. The disciple of charismatic religious leader Prophet William Stein (Lew Cody), Comrade John is devoted to his master but balks when the Prophet steals John's girlfriend (Ruth Roland). Now realizing that Stein is a phony, John takes his story to the newspapers, succeeding only in bringing scorn upon himself. Fortunately, Prophet William manages to shoot himself in the foot via his own reckless behavior. Co-star Lew Cody managed to steal the picture from nominal leads William Elliot and Ruth Roland with what seemed to be the greatest of ease.
