Synopsis by Mark Deming

Life is turned upside down for a handful of willfully eccentric artists in this independent comedy-drama. The Compound is a collective living and working space for creative types in Berkley, California. The Compound's residents include comic artist Jesse Reklaw and experimental audio whiz Fausto Caceres. Drama explodes at The Compound when an installment of Reklaw's strip "Slow Waves" is interpreted as a mean-spirited parody of the September 11 attacks; suddenly the media is hovering around the place, with one reporter (Jill Hartwell) determined to dig up some dirt on the place and its residents. Caceres in particular becomes the focus of unwanted attention as he tries to deal with a failing relationship with his girlfriend (Atosa Babaoff), broadcast new material on a illegal radio outlet and finalize plans for a voyage to China. Jesse Reklaw and Fausto Caceres are real-life artists who play themselves in Compound Eye alongside actors who portray the outside interlopers at the Compound.
