This was the first time George Ade's famous play was made into a motion picture. Pretty Jane Witherspoon (Ethel Clayton) is the daughter of the president of Atwater College. Jack Larrabee, the football coach (Ferdinand Tidmarsh), is in love with her, but when his team is in desperate need of a halfback, he encourages her to flirt with Billy Bolton (George Soule Spencer), who's on Atwater's rival team from Hingham. Bolton falls in love with Jane almost on sight, and Larrabee's trick backfires on him because Jane also falls for the halfback. Bolton joins Atwater and the team defeats Hingham, but a fire breaks out at the hotel where the victory celebration is being held. Bolton is injured when he jumps from a window and Jane gets trapped in a burning stairway. Larrabee risks his life to save her and return her to her Bolton's embrace. Apparently, the climax was a little too real, and the fire actually posed a danger to the actors involved in its filming.
