Based on the children's book of the same name, this documentary profiles United States military leader Gen. Colin Luther Powell. The video focuses on Powell's journey from troubled, inner-city youth to top-ranking military officer. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from October 1, 1989, to September 30, 1993, Powell played an instrumental role in planning the United States' 1989 invasion of Panama, as well as the Desert Shield and Desert Storm operations of the Persian Gulf crisis and war. The program is aimed at children in grades five through eight and follows the military leader's career through his retirement in 1993.
