Synopsis by Mark Deming

Actor and historian Peter Sherayko brings to life one of the most colorful and controversial figures of the American West in this performance film. Cody: An Evening With Buffalo Bill records a performance of Sherayko's one-man show in which he plays Buffalo Bill Cody, who went from being a buffalo hunter and scout for the American military to a living legend of Western folklore, only to see his legend swallow up the truth of his life as Cody was forced to deal with an outsized ego others fabricated for him. Later, Cody used his reputation to stage a long-running Wild West show and quietly used his resources to help protect the unspoiled West that he truly loved.
