Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Wearing some rather ill-chosen makeup, Blanche Sweet starred in Paramount's The Clue as Christine Lesley, the sweetheart of one Guy Bertram (Edward McKay). Guy's sister Eve (Gertrude Kellar) is enamored of Russian expatriate Alexis (Page Peters), whose brother Boris (Ernest Joy) has designs on Christine. Partly out of jealousy, Guy tells Alexis to leave Eve alone, but the Russian pays him no heed. Eventually, Alexis is killed, and Guy is led to believe that he himself is the guilty party. Enter Nogi (Sessue Hayakawa), of the Japanese secret service, who has been trailing Alexis and Boris because of a valuable war map that they've stolen. Meanwhile, Boris has slipped the map to Christine without her knowledge. This makes Christine the next target for the unknown murderer -- who, by this time, everyone in the audience has guessed is none other than Nogi.
