Author Tom Winton adopts his own acclaimed novel to the screen in this mini-series about two disparate rural families struggling to build a better life in Perth, Australia during the 1940s and '50s. The Lambs are a staunchly religious family who value hard work and faith in God; the Pickles are a hard-luck clan of outcasts.
