Soviet-born classical concert pianist Tatiana Nikolayeva (1924-93) built her reputation on three interrelated careers and roles: that of a piano teacher, a composer, and interpreter of others' compositions- particularly those of Dmitri Shostakovich, in whose 24 Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87 she came to specialize. This release features a complete interpretation of the said work by Nikolayeva, done in December 1992 - one year prior to her death.
