Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
The Civil War remains the bloodiest war in the history of the United States, as the North and South of the land engaged in a pitched battle over ideas and territory. Economics and slavery were two of those issues that rent the fabric of a nation and turned brother against brother. This series chronicles some of the key moments in the war's four-year progression. This episode recalls the terrible fighting at Antietam between the Union's Irish Brigade and the Alabama Regiment. The fierceness of the fighting over control of a road earned the place the immortal name of "Bloody Lane."
