Known as carnal crusaders, brothers Jim and Arnie Mitchell spearheaded a movement to legitimize pornography in the 1970s. Along with fellow flesh merchants Larry Flynt and Hugh Hefner, the brothers became a success. They created the now legendary Behind the Green Door and Deep Throat as well as the first safe sex porno. But, the siblings' rise to fame was accompanied by a slide into addiction. By the end of the 1980s, Arnie in particular was fully ensconced in a cocaine and alcohol paranoia much of the time. That was why Jim was able to excuse his 1991 murder of his own brother as "an intervention gone wrong." He served only three years for the killing though he claims his emotional sentence will be much longer. A&E documents the tragic end to the San Francisco-based defenders of free speech.
