Synopsis by Mark Deming
Daniela Dessi plays the title role, widely regarded as one of the great vehicles for female sopranos, in this glossy production of Francesco Cilea's most celebrated opera. Cilea: Adriana Lecouvreur tells the tale of an emotionally overwrought actress who must fight for the affections of the Count of Saxony; this production was recorded at the Teatro Alla Scalla in Milan in early 2000, with Sergei Larin and Olga Borodina playing the other two thirds of the romantic triangle.
