Synopsis by Mark Deming

Alastair, Mark and Tom are three men who attended a well-respected British private school for boys when they were young. They were good students and have gone on to successful careers, but the three have also carried with them a troubling secret that still haunts them nearly four decades later -- Alastair, Mark and Tom were all subjected to sexual abuse by members of the school's staff. Award-winning filmmaker Brian Woods allows these men to tell their stories in their own words in the documentary Chosen. With little additional embellishment, Chosen presents these three men speaking at length about their childhood experiences, the shame and confusion they still carry with them, and how they have (and haven't) dealt with the aftermath of their abuse. Brian Woods was inspired to make Chosen when Tom Perry saw his film Dying For Drugs and contacted the filmmaker, believing he was the right man to help him bring the story of himself and his friends to the world; Chosen received enthusiastic reviews after it was broadcast by Channel Four in the UK, and was an official selection at the 2008 Sheffield International Documentary Festival.
