synopsis
After fleeing the awful consequences of the Cultural Revolution, three Chinese refugees who survive their flight find that their lives in Hong Kong may not be better than the circumstances they left behind in China. Perhaps this drama was designed by Hong Kong authorities as a tool for encouraging mainland Chinese to stay at home, instead of swamping the tiny island of enterprise with refugees. Out of the five intellectuals who fled, only three survive to live in Hong Kong, and their labors there are so demeaning to them that they wish they had never left the mainland, but they can never return.
