Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The setting for this PBS reality series was Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Each of the series' six episodes focused on a different aspect of how the staff handled children with serious and/or terminal diseases, or who were about to undergo radical surgery. More poignantly, the series showed how the kids themselves dealt with their individual medical crises. Episode titles included "Medical Decisions," "E.R. Detectives," "Pioneers of Pediatrics," "Social Ills," "Counting the Cost," and "Childhood - When Hospital is Home." Sherry Stringfield, longtime regular on the medical series E.R., served as narrator. Co-produced by the United Kingdom's Lion Television and Oregon Public Broadcasting, Children's Hospital made its first PBS appearance on July 2, 2002, and was subsequently released to video on a two-episode-per-tape basis.
