Oscar-winning documentarians Susan and Alan Raymond turn their attention to the littlest victims, and oftentimes participants, of modern warfare in their 2000 documentary Children in War. Made over the course of five years, the Raymonds made a total of nine trips to four different war-torn countries to interview children whose lives were forever changed due to their experiences with war violence. In Bosnia, a 12-year-old boy recalls the shelling of his home that left him critically injured and permanently disabled, while in Israel, the Raymonds interview another 12-year-old boy whose father died in his arms after their mosque was attacked by Israeli extremists. In Rwanda, an 11-year-old Tutsi retells his story of witnessing Hutus slaughtering his family while he hid in a nearby swamp, and in Northern Ireland, a Protestant child talks about his imprisoned father -- a member of a Protestant paramilitary outfit -- who was convicted for plotting to kill Catholics. Children in War premiered on HBO in January 2000.
