Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Based on a novel by Henry M. Blossom Jr., the bucolic romantic drama Checkers became an enormously successful stage vehicle for actor Thomas W. Ross. It was inevitable, then, that Ross would transfer his performance to film, which he did through the auspices of the All-Star Features corporation. In addition to starring in the film, Ross also served as director. Alas, he had only a rudimentary grasp of film technique, and as a result Checkers was an exercise in dullness. Whether or not Ross himself was an adequate screen actor is open to conjecture, since the film apparently no longer exists.
