Wars took a huge toll in lives and suffering in a steady course of conflict, punctuated by a few years of peace. This program evaluates the causes and costs of warfare in the last century. No price for the sake of freedom was ever more dear than that paid in World War II. This episode documents the planning and events that led up to the historic landing of Allied troops on the shores of Normandy. D-Day marked the beginning of the end for Hitler. The program presents personal accounts of soldiers who took part in the invasion and subsequent battles that forced the Germany army back to the Rhine, along with archival film footage and photographs.
