synopsis
La Casa del Angel (The House of the Angel) is a cautionary fable about moral despotism. The heroine, played by Elsa Daniel, is raised by an obsessively religious mother. No matter what the girl does, she is chastized both verbally and physically by her mother, who wields her piety like a club. As a result, the girl is tragically unable to function in the "real world", much less form any sort of lasting relationship with a man. Based on a novel by Beatriz Guido, La Casa del Angel was Argentina's entry in the 1957 Cannes Film Festival.
