Synopsis by Erin Demers
This inspirational drama is based on the true story of Ashley Smith (Kate Mara), a once drug addicted single mother who was taken hostage in her apartment by a troubled man named Brian Nichols (David Oyelowo). On the run after murdering a judge and two other people at the courthouse, convicted felon Nichols was a frenetic and threatening presence in the apartment, causing Smith to believe she would soon be killed. Despite her terror she slowly gained the trust of Nichols and was able to calm him by reading passages from a spiritual book. The incident has profoundly changed both of their lives with Ashley abstaining from drugs in the years since. She went on to write the book Unlikely Angel upon which this film is based. Directed by Jerry Jameson.
