Captains Courageous on AllMovie

A remake of the powerful, five-star movie from 1937 with Freddie Bartholomew, Spencer Tracy, Melvyn Douglas and Lionel Barrymore, it would be difficult not to make derogatory comparisons. All in all, however, this movie has been put together with different emphases on the characters and so is not really the same movie. For example, Kahn is really quite an obnoxious rich kid - a very different take on the Bartholomew character. The story of a spoiled kid who is forced to come of age by a crusty sea captain, it's still a classic tale, though presented in more average fashion in this version.
