Synopsis by Janiss Garza

While attending college, Lewis (Carlyle Blackwell) ignores his father's admonitions to pay attention to his studies and as a result comes to a bad end. He prefers having drunken parties with other students, and one night, a group of them break into a neighbor's home. The police come, and all of them escape except Lewis and Steve Burns (Harry LaMotte). In the struggle, a policeman is shot and killed. Lewis becomes a fugitive from the law, but he settles down when he meets and marries Alice Hamilton (Evelyn Greeley). He goes to work at a bank, and the couple have a daughter, Editha (Madge Evans). But one day, Burns comes around and threatens to reveal the incident with the policeman unless they do a job on the bank. They are caught in the vault, and Lewis is sent to prison. He escapes but is wounded. Later he shows up at the home of his wife, who has remarried, with the intention of burglarizing the place. But he's suddenly struck by the aftereffects of the bullet wound and dies. This picture was adapted from the play Editha's Burglar by Augustus Thomas, which was based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
