As written, directed and presented by Anna Wilding, the documentary Buddha Wild attempts to synthesize components of Eastern and Western culture, as it takes a fresh look at the lives, beliefs and shared culture of a group of Buddhist monks. Wilding asks key questions about what it means, within Buddhism, to live as one with nature and the environment; she also studies what actually transpires from day to day behind the doors of a Buddhist monastery, and questions the monks on such topics as politics, racism, gender and celibacy.
