Synopsis by Janiss Garza
This romantic tale of the Klondike was a routine programmer from Selznick. When Emily Dwyer (Winifred Westover) travels north to join the man who has promised to marry her, she discovers that he's no good. She decides to kill herself, but she's stopped by Ritchie MacDonald (Conway Tearle). MacDonald is one of five men who came to the Klondike in the midst of the gold rush but found themselves out of the money. The men decide to cut cards, with the loser taking out a $100,000 insurance policy; at the end of a year, he will kill himself so the others can collect. MacDonald winds up drawing an ace and being chosen. Before the year is out, the men discover a gold strike, but one of them still insists that MacDonald must keep his word. MacDonald is about to follow through -- until Emily shows up.
