Synopsis by Sarah Ing
The last episode in a seven-part series, British Documentary Movement, Vol. 7: Festival of Britain examines the history of non-fiction filmmaking directly after World War II. Humphrey Jennings made his last documentary when he was commissioned to direct Family Portrait for the Festival of Britain. The resulting film was a poetic and optimistic look at England as a nation. Meanwhile, Paul Dickson detailed the life of a mining town in David. His efforts are joined by John Eldridge who contributed an artistic and stylized documentary about Edinburgh in Waverly Steps.
