synopsis
No relation to the 1934 Shirley Temple vehicle of the same name, the British Bright Eyes is a vehicle for chipper cockney comedienne Betty Balfour. The star plays a scullery maid, whose romance with a nightclub waiter is cut short by the snobbish club manager. Our humiliated heroine gets her revenge when she befriends a bibulous South American playboy. The fun begins when the newly-bejeweled Balfour returns to the nightclub whence she was booted out, with the wealthy playboy on her arm. Just goes to show that Pretty Woman was hardly a new idea in 1989.
