synopsis
Jim McBride directed this bastardized Americanization of Jean-Luc Godard's certified French New Wave classic. Richard Gere is Jesse Lujack, heading back to L.A. in a car stolen in Las Vegas. When a cop pulls Lujack over, he accidentally shoots the cop. On the run, he heads to UCLA and the apartment of Monica Poiccard (Valerie Kaprisky), with whom he has had an affair. Ever the romantic, Lujack convinces himself that he loves her and tries to get her to agree to run away with him to Mexico. But Monica has ideas of her own that Lujack, in his deluded grandeur, doesn't even suspect. In fact, he is nonchalantly unaware that a dragnet is closing in on him as the search for the cop killer intensifies.
